Welcome Emma Edwards, PA-C
Innovative Pain & Spine Specialists is proud to welcome Emma Edwards, PA-C, to our Lincoln, Nebraska team. She joins the experienced pain medicine team of Dr. Zach Kelly, Dr. Phillip Essay, and Kelsey Hohlen, PA-C.
What is a PA-C?
A PA-C is a board-certified physician assistant. PAs are trusted healthcare providers who practice medicine to collaborate with physicians, diagnose illnesses, develop and manage treatment plans, and prescribe medications. A PA can serve as a sole healthcare provider in some areas. PA education involves courses in medical and behavioral sciences and includes clinical rotations in various medical and surgical subspecialties at the master's level.
Emma Edwards, PA-C, and Kelsey Hohlen, PA-C, are integral members of the Innovative Pain & Spine Specialists team, by collaborating with our physicians, to accurately diagnose patients' pain and develop appropriate treatment plans. They can expand the treatment for patients in pain by providing more access, quality, and trusted medical care.
Emma grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska Kearney and earned her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2012. Emma was inducted into Pi Alpha national honor society, has her certification with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
When deciding what her future career path would be, Emma found the medical field attractive. “I always loved the idea of helping people in a real way and with a hands-on approach,” said Emma. Before joining the Innovative Pain & Spine Specialists team, Emma spent seven years working in family practice. During that time, she treated many patients who had identified chronic pain, and Emma continually felt eager to help them.
At Innovative Pain & Spine Specialists, Emma can focus her attention on patients with chronic pain and treat them with the proper plan and care. She enjoys seeing the whole picture of treating chronic pain and disease. “Getting to know each patient and educating them so they have a complete understanding of their treatment plan is quite meaningful to me,” Emma added.
Emma enjoys working at Innovative Pain & Spine Specialists because she meets people with different pain areas. "It's rewarding to see people get back to their lives without debilitating pain that had limited them before," she noted. Emma’s patients can expect her to listen to them. Like all of our providers, Emma takes special care in providing a personalized experience unique to each patient. She wants to identify the root causes of patients’ concerns and provide a treatment plan to fit their needs.
When Emma isn't working, she enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her husband and their two children. When asked who inspires her, Emma said her children. “I want to be better for them,” she said. We can’t think of a better way to inspire her kiddos or peers than doing the work she does every day.
