Intracept (Basivertebral Nerve Ablation)
Chronic back pain occurs in roughly 16 million adults in the United States and is a leading cause of disability and healthcare expenses. The Intracept procedure is an FDA-approved procedure for the treatment of chronic back pain. The procedure targets and cauterizes (burns) the nerve endings within a patient’s vertebrae. The Intracept is considered for patients who have experienced back pain for six months or longer. A lumbar MRI is performed to determine if a patient’s vertebra presents swelling, causing pain to be sent through the basivertebral nerve. The Intracept procedure takes 45-60 minutes and cauterizes the nerve to block the signals of back pain. Relief from the procedure can last for 3-5 years or longer. The pain medicine physicians at Innovative Pain and Spine Specialists in Omaha and Lincoln will help determine if the Intracept procedure is right for you.
