Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are a form of regenerative medicine used to treat a variety of pain conditions. A small amount of the patient’s blood is drawn and then put into a centrifuge which then separates the different blood components into layers. From this sample, the part of the blood known as the plasma, which has a high concentration of platelets, is isolated. This part of the blood contains components that help to heal injured areas. This is then injected into the patient’s painful or injured joint, tendon, ligament, etc. to speed up the healing process and provide pain relief. Common conditions that are treated with PRP include osteoarthritis, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and bursitis. It can take 8-12 weeks to notice full effect from this procedure
